"The muffled drum's sad roll has beat
The soldier's last tattoo...”

John Henry Kurtz, of Cape May, New Jersey, died March 8, 2008, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was one of the original co-founders of Company K, First Pennsylvania Reserves, in 1989. Under his guidance, Company K became one of the premier reenacting organizations in the country. John Henry graduated from Havertown High School, class of 1963. He then served in the Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and outside of the hobby, was best known for his multi-talented voice on Broadway and on television. He was the announcer and voice of NBC Nightly News, Court TV, numerous commercials, and several other shows. He had also recorded several records with ABC Records. John Henry was one of the premier Civil War artifacts collectors in the United States. He was the organizer of the band 'Country Coalition'. He was also a bagpiper.
John Henry initiated and financed this new Web site. His last gift to the Company he loved.

A total of 26 men turned out for Company K's Gettysburg Living History the weekend of June 19-20, on a weekend that was blessed by lots of sunshine, and a bit of breeze to temper the heat. Joined by volunteers from the 53rd PVI and the First and Third Maryland, Company K did its typical good job (if we may say so!) of drilling and firing the sort of crisp volleys for which the National Regiment is known. As has been the case in the past, Croce Volpe of the 53rd PVI also did his great Civil War field surgeon impression. Our demos were well-attended, and our camp was filled with visitors, in between demos.
